The Steampunk Gallery opens today at 3 p.m. SLT, with the a celebration highlighted by a concert by Saffron Albatros, an SL voice artist streaming live from England.  A reception will follow in the gallery featuring new works by St. Monci"

J.W. Steampunk is the driving force behind the gallery.
Says Steampunk, "The Steampunk (Gallery) will contribute to SLNE by seeking out unique artists who may not be able to fill Nantucket Square yet  - but who certainly have something new to say. To that end we are very proud to open the Steampunk Gallery with the new works of St. Monci - a graffiti artist."
St. Monci is an Award Winning Graffiti Artist based in Rochester, N.Y..  He has participated in dozens of RL exhibitions and created unique public art work. The niche of this SL artist is that the show also opens at the same time in RL at the 1975 Gallery in Rochester.

Kips to display in Nantucket Square PDF Print E-mail

Artist and innovative thinker, Ragamuffin Kips has an incredible talent and passion for both the physical world experienced by all and the virtual world known as Second Life.   Kips would say his work has, “a foot in both worlds” and will be on display for the public starting February 21st.  The exhibit, “Prims on Paper” will run until March 20th and starts with an all welcomed Gala where the soothing guitar melodies from Joaquin Gustav can be enjoyed. He will be streaming live from Argentina from 2pm-3pm.
“Art is a very physical act.  I use mainly chalk pastels to create my drawings because they're easily manipulated with my hands,” Kips explained.  That is what makes Kips work so amazing, and brings Second Life and real life together as one.
Kips vision of fusing Second Life art with real life art is refreshing. He wishes the audiences of his work to allow the veils of separation between the "real" and the imagined to relax a bit.

February Message to the Residents of New England PDF Print E-mail
Written by Sudane Erato
Monday, 08 February 2010 22:19
We've just completed the most extraordinary achievement in the history of our community. Becca Horsforth and her team have organized a successful fund-raising effort for the victims of the Haitian earthquake which by a large margin is the biggest fund-raiser in Second Life. The money goes directly to an organization set up in Second Life to collect funds for this effort, which you can inspect here on virtualhaitirelief.org. We are very very proud of Becca and her group for the accomplishment of this effort and for the attention it has brought to our community.
I'm also thrilled to say that planning is under way for our first, full time, New England radio station. We all look forward to tuning into a stream on our parcels, or even through our browser at our RL home, which is a unique expression of our community.
As everyone knows, land sales in our community and in almost every community across Second Life have been hit badly by both ill-advised Linden Lab (owners of Second Life) decisions and by the real world economic woes. I'd like you to know that we're agressively doing something about it, and we hope to see sales improve over the coming months. Here's what we're doing.
  1. Jeanne Schimmer and I are engaged in an active campaign to re-landscape many of the parcels recently left vacant and emptied of landscaping. Everyone should understand that new buyers respond hugely to the attractive appearance of parcels they consider to buy. Beautification contributes very importantly to the value of our land.
  2. I am exploring ways to lock down many of the beautification improvements that we are making. On most parcels, when a resident leaves, all the prims present on that parcel are removed, including the ones we've placed there for beautification. We are experimenting with ways to prevent that.
  3. We are discussing launching a land advertising campaign on XStreet. We've never advertised our land sales before, other than on our website, so this will be a first. Any suggestions regarding such a campaign are welcome.
  4. We are exploring paying residents commissions to bring in new residents. Again, your comments to me are welcome about such an idea.
And one final topic for this message. We've engaged a professional "de-laggification" expert to work with us to improve the experience on Nantucket sim (and if successful, on other problematic sims). We're very excited at the prospect of finally addressing this huge problem. A great thanks to Xander Ruttan for assisting us to connect with this resource.
This is the first of what I hope to be a regular message to our residents. Please let me know what you think. We'll start off sending this to the residents group and posting it on the website, but we're also considering other means of distribution. (Think of it!... perhaps a regular radio message from Sudane!)

Christine Haiku
Anyone who has been to a music event in Second Life New England, has surely been warmly greeted by the Theatre Manager, Christine Haiku. Poised and friendly, Christine has brought new energy and excitement to entertainment in SLNE. She has sought out an array of exciting new performers who have struck a chord with our community. Haiku is a constant presence. One of her friends commented, "It's been a pleasure to see Christine develop into the professional and highly skilled individual she is today."

Get more prims for your home in New England. PDF Print E-mail
Written by Sudane Erato
Sunday, 17 January 2010 18:17

The good life in Second Life depends on prims. The more the better. This is a notice to remind you that if you live on a full sim in New England... *not* a homestead... we have more prims available for you if you'd like them. We can give you prims for free... no need to buy them. But you will have to pay tier on them; the tier is about L$1300/month for 100 prims. If you're interested, please IM me (Sudane Erato) with how many you'd like!

When you get more prims, you are actually getting more land in the same sim as your house. The prims that come with that land add to the prims that came with your first parcel, so that now you have more you can use in your house. The "prim land" is likely to be underwater someplace in the sim... you cannot use that land to put things on. But so long as you are careful to make sure that the same person owns both pieces of land, all the prims on both parcels are available for your home.

If you need more info, just ask!
