Christine Haiku
Anyone who has been to a music event in Second Life New England, has surely been warmly greeted by the Theatre Manager, Christine Haiku. Poised and friendly, Christine has brought new energy and excitement to entertainment in SLNE. She has sought out an array of exciting new performers who have struck a chord with our community. Haiku is a constant presence. One of her friends commented, "It's been a pleasure to see Christine develop into the professional and highly skilled individual she is today."

How long have you been in Second Life?

I joined Second Life on New Year's Day 2009...so, I just celebrated my 1 year Rez Day.

How did you learn about Second Life?

I overhead some coworkers talking about SL being in the news due to it causing divorces and hardships in RL relationships. A few weeks later I was bored online and figured I would check it out to see what it was all about. Never thought I would get sucked in...

Do you have a newbie experience you would like to share?

My first day in Second Life, I was lost on how to walk, talk or do anything within the SL. Somehow I managed to end up in a builder's sandbox, where I was rescued by a couple of New England concierges. They took me back to SLNE and took me under their wing. This would have to be the worst and best experience for me in SL.

When and how did you discover SLNE?

It was at that point that I was rescued by those two concierges that I discovered SLNE. From that day on, SLNE became and will always be my "home" within SL.

Do you have a business or place of employment in Second Life?

I am the Theatre Manager of SLNE's Nantucket Theatre.

Tell us about your favorite leisure activity in Second Life. How about real life?

My favorite leisure activity in Second Life is the live music concerts. Some of my favorite musicians include: Clairede Dirval, Christopher135 Quan, Damian Carbenell and LadyScarlett Gears. If you haven't heard some of these fine musicians, I highly recommend you do; and drag me to a concert with you if you like.

Do you have a favorite spot in SLNE?

My favorite spot is the theater. It's where I spend the most of my time for obvious reasons. Another spot I love is the gazebo out in the marina. That is a favorite spot of mine for thinking or dancing with a special someone.

What would you change about Second Life if you could?

The drama. There always seems to be some going on at all times. SL is to have fun and escape RL drama, not add to it.

What do you do in Second Life that you cannot do in real life?

Teleport. I actually asked a friend to figure out how to create a teleport machine in RL. So far, he hasn't come up with one. I hope he's still working on it.

How has Second Life affected your real life?

SL has taken over my life. Is there really still a sun? Kidding! It has become an addiction for me, however I have met the most amazing people here; people that help me get through how horrible my real life can be at times. Those people are irreplaceable in my life. You know who you are. I love you all.

What do you do for a living in real life?

I am a corporate event planner.

Where do you live in real life?

Wisconsin, USA

Kudos to you Christine, and all the Village staff--Becca and all the attentive concierge staff. Your diligence and professionalism were outstanding during the Haiti fund-raising marathon. Without all of you and your creative work, SLNE residents would not be able to accept a commendation for raising the most L$ in SL. Kudos to all of you--you got us to dig deeper and deeper. Many, many thanks. Elicea Igaly
