Kips to display in Nantucket Square PDF Print E-mail

Artist and innovative thinker, Ragamuffin Kips has an incredible talent and passion for both the physical world experienced by all and the virtual world known as Second Life.   Kips would say his work has, “a foot in both worlds” and will be on display for the public starting February 21st.  The exhibit, “Prims on Paper” will run until March 20th and starts with an all welcomed Gala where the soothing guitar melodies from Joaquin Gustav can be enjoyed. He will be streaming live from Argentina from 2pm-3pm.
“Art is a very physical act.  I use mainly chalk pastels to create my drawings because they're easily manipulated with my hands,” Kips explained.  That is what makes Kips work so amazing, and brings Second Life and real life together as one.
Kips vision of fusing Second Life art with real life art is refreshing. He wishes the audiences of his work to allow the veils of separation between the "real" and the imagined to relax a bit.

Evad Slade brings the big picture to Square showing PDF Print E-mail

Photographer Evad Slade could be called a "big picture" thinker. His photos of New England vistas will be on display in the Square at Nantucket starting at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, through mid-February. The opening will be celebrated from 2 to 4 p.m. SLT, and Phoe Nix will play from 2 to 3.

"I started out as a photographer of archetectural details and moved up to wider views," Slade said. "You look at a closeup of a flower and you see a nicely designed act of nature captured by the photographer. Look a wide landscape and a memory may be conjured up by the viewer."

The viewers of this month's display will see rugged mountains, sweeping skylines, lush forests. but nothing to suggest the ocean.

"I guess I'm more of a mountain/country  person than a "seacoast" one," he said. "Also it might have something todo with a fear of water, so I prefer landscapes, barns and their stories within their details."

Acrylic on canvas

Talk about sacrificing for your art. This month's SL New England exhibitor, Sisi Biedermann came inworld with a goal of earning enough money to buy some land and open her own virtual gallery.

Her revenue stream? Camping.

"It took about half a year to earn enough," Biedermann says. But in the process, she found a new medium. "As time went by I found out that I wanted to photograph as well in SL," she says, "and I think now it has become a hobby to find new motives to make pictures of for my galleries. It has really become a heavy hobby for me and takes a lot of free time in real life."
